I have been silent on my blog for a while. Partly because I have started a "new" challenge that took some time to settle into.
I have been an educator for over 20 years.
I have been a classroom teacher, building administrator & district administrator.
Our family recently felt called to a new location which gave me the opportunity to work for an education non-profit for a year.
Then the call back to the field came. I couldn't resist. Those of you that are called into education know that the calling never really leaves you. I knew I needed to be back in a position that allowed me to have a more direct impact on students. I loved the work I was doing, but I was in a position that didn't give me any interaction with students and I needed to get back to that on some level. If you haven't been in that position, it is hard to put into words exactly what this calling means.
Granted I was still able to influence educators and indirectly impact students, but it just wasn't the same.
It has been several years since I have been in a classroom of my own. Not only that, this school year has proven to be an unprecedented year for educators. Just to list a few for those that don't know:
- Late start because of added training
- New LMS platforms
- New cleaning procedures & duties
- Impending threat of school being closed again
- Students in and out because of close contact & quarantine, some return for a day and are right back out.
- An ultra-polarized election season
- The loss of friends, family and coworkers
Despite all the challenges, I am thankful that I have had this chance. Working with students again reminded me even more of why I became an educator. It has taken some time to get settled into the routines this year has provided us, but now that I have I am ready to start back in on the blog.
Most of what I will share from this point forward will be things that I have learned over the years and things that I am still learning. As a Google for Education Certified Trainer, some of my focus will be on those topics. Other topics will relate to other best practices and also how our beliefs intertwine with how we teach.
I look forward to sharing again even if no one else is reading this.
